Training Programmes

Training CD
In 2000, the predecessor of the Burren Connect Project, the Burren Tourism and Environment Initiative, identified the need for a system of providing information on the Burren to tourism related businesses that can be used by the owners and staff of business whenever they have time. They found that many business owners and their staff (many businesses have a turnover of staff) did not have the time to attend conventionally delivered courses or classes. The BTEI proposed the development of an interactive CD ROM with detailed information on the geology, history, archaeology, flora and fauna and culture of the Burren.

The Burren Connect Project has taken this proposal and developed and designed an interactive information CD, with sections on Burren Geology & Landscape, Flora & Fauna, Archaeology & History, Agriculture & Land Use and Culture & Community. The aim of each section is to provide the user with an overview and enough information to answer the usual questions posed by their visitors and clients. Each section has a scored quiz to test the attentiveness and knowledge of the user and can be used to have a fun competition with other users. We hope it is an engaging way of learning interesting facts about the Burren. Further reading lists are provided at the end of each section. Though the primary audience for this CD is Burren tourism businesses, this CD can be of use to local schools also. Free copies of this CD will be circulated to Burren Businesses and Burren Schools

Text was provided by Burrenbeo. Images were supplied by Burrenbeo and John Kelly of the Clare Champion. Music was supplied by Chris Droney. Voice over is by Pat Costello.

Ecotourism Training Programmes
Arising out of a series of meetings, a Burren Ecotourism Working Group will be initiated in September (see the Tourism section of this site, under Ecotourism, for more details). Identifying appropriate training in ecotourism, in certification and standards, marketing and promotion, will be part of this groups work. Details of these programmes will be advertised in the local media and websites.

Other information/ training initiatives will be planned and delivered with the participation of agencies, interest groups and committees.
