Launch of NEED geo-education resources The Stone, Water and Ice series of books, maps, and education packs on the Burren’s landscape and geology was launched by Burren Connect in Lisdoonvarna Pavilion Hall on Thursday 12th May 2011. The publications were distributed free to schools in the Burren, as well as Burren Ecotourism Network businesses, environmental education groups & conservation organisations in the region. The geo-education resources were officially launched by Dr. Pat O'Connor, Director of the Geological Survey of Ireland. Carol Gleeson, manager of Burren Connect and Dr. Ronán Hennessy, Burren Geopark Geologist also spoke at the launch event. Dr. Pat O Connor stated that "The NEED project has delivered a series of excellent geo-education resources - Stone, Water and Ice - based on the geological processes that have shaped the iconic limestone karst landscapes of the Burren and spectacular seascapes of the Cliffs of Moher. This part of Ireland's Atlantic Edge provides an inspiring outdoor learning environment for visitor and student alike and the attractive and well-illustrated NEED publications contribute greatly to this experience" |
