About Ballyvaghan

Ballyvaughan (Irish: Baile Uí Bheacháin, meaning ‘Town of the Beacháin (Behan) family or Townland of the Mushrooms’) is a small harbour village in County Clare in Ireland. It is located on the south shores of Galway Bay, in the northwest corner of The Burren, an area of great rocky expanse, considered by many to be a unique landscape.

Burren Cyling Club
Description
The Burren Cycling Club was formed on the 28th of November 2003 to promote cycling in the beautiful picturesque area of the Burren in North Clare. The original founders of the club were life long cycling enthuasist, John Nilan, and Patrick O Donoughue. Cycling within Clare is nothing new with a variety of clubs located around the county. The Burren with its vast array of terrain ranging from the gentle slopes of Fanore to the lung bursting Corkscrew Hill poses a challenge for all levels of cyclist. It was Cromwell, who was supposed to have said, during his adventures in Ireland during 1649 that in the Burren there was "not enough wood in the area to make a frame to hang a man, not enough water to drown a man and not enough earth to bury a man." Some 350 years later and with approximately 50 members the Burren Cycling Club is going from strength to strength. The Club has already hosted four successful " Tour de Burren" spins and is already actively planning ahead for the next summer Tour which will happen in June 2008.
