About Doolin

Dubh Linn - The black pool.
Doolin lies on the south-western extremity of the Burren and is internationally renowned as a centre of live Irish music, played in its many hugely popular pubs. It has a wide range of accommodation, and good quality restaurants. Popular all year round, most of the activity in the village focuses on the original areas of ‘Fisherstreet’ and “Roadford”. Doolin is an excellent base for exploring the Cliffs of Moher, Doolin Cave (Poll an Ionáin) as well as the Burren and its Atlantic coastline. Doolin is also popular as the departure point for the Aran Islands Ferry, and Cliffs of Moher Cruises. For more information visit www.doolin-tourism.com
Doolin (Dúlainn in Irish) is a coastal village in County Clare, Ireland, on the Atlantic coast. It borders the spa town of Lisdoonvarna. There are numerous nearby archaeological sites, many dating to the Iron Age and earlier. Doonagore Castle and Ballinalacken Castle are also in the area.
One of Doolin's claims to fame is that it is the main setting for the PlayStation 3 game Folklore. According to the game's storyline, the Netherworld, the world of the dead is a realm that can only be accessed from one place in the world, the sea-side village of Doolin.
Doolin is one of three places (Galway and the village of Rossaveal on the northwest shore of Galway Bay are the others) with ferry services to the Aran Islands, which are visible from the town. Doolin is also close to the Cliffs of Moher, and a bus service between Galway and Limerick/Ennis calls at both Doolin and the cliffs in each direction. The area is at the south-western corner of the Burren region.
The scattered village of Doolin comprises three parts along with a harbour.
The Harbour is the departing point for boat trips to the Aran Islands and the Cliffs of Moher. There is also a very good campsite near by.
Fisher Street has O'Connor's Pub,Doolin hostel, shops, restaurants and bed and breakfasts.
Fitz's Cross where there is a hostel, campsite and two new hotels and another pub which opened in 2006/2007 as well as Cullinan's Seafood Restaurant and GuestHouse.
Roadford has McGann's and Mc Dermott's pubs, three restaurants, two hostels including The Rainbow Hostel, and a number of B&Bs.
The Aille River runs from the hills of the Burren down past Doolin to meet the sea. The small Crab Island is a short distance out from Doolin Harbor, barren except for the remains of a 19th century stone constabulary outpost.

After the passing of Peter's dad in October 2006, Peter was eager to continue in the tradition of his father and grandfather and keep the stable yard operating at its full potential. Doolin Surfing
Description
Located 20kms from Lahinch, Doolin is a charming small seaside village on the northwest coast of County Clare. Set against the rugged Atlantic Ocean and surrounded by the spectacular bare limestone landscape of the Burren, Doolin is a place of breathtaking beauty.
As well as being renowned for its stunning scenery, Doolin is also a famous surfing area in County Clare, with massive surf crashing in off the Atlantic. In the early and late parts of the year, there's no place better to surf than at the back of Crab Island. Crab Island sits just offshore from Doolin harbour. It offers some protection for the harbour from the Atlantic waves, and has the best surf in the country on the reefs which extend from the south of the island. Crab Island provides an exposed reef break that has reasonably consistent surf and can work at any time of the year.
It is important to note that Crab Island should only be attempted by fit and experienced surfers, as the paddle is much longer than it looks. Also please be aware that the wave arrives out of deep water with little warning and can catch the unwary. Many surfers who are not aware of the nature of this location have been caught "inside" the break with the danger of being washed on to the rocky island. The "rips" here can be very strong when the surf is big. And remember to keep a reserve of energy for the paddle back to the mainland.
Not far from Crab Island is Doolin Point, another great surfing location in County Clare. With reef break waves and relatively consistent surf it’s a great surfing spot. As Doolin point can break very close to jagged rocks it is also only for the experienced.
And there’s much more to savour in this perfect surfing location…Doolin is renowned for its wealth of traditional Irish music, beautiful coastline, historic sites and friendly atmosphere, all of which make it a great place for the perfect surfing trip!
